P6 to Sec 1 Maths: What Changed, and How to Prepare Your Child?

Live online seminar for parents of students entering Sec 1 in 2027

Asia/Singapore
Add to calendar:

Understand the maths demands ahead and the learning habits your child needs to tackle them with greater independence.

12th Dec · 8pm SGT
Location: Online @ Zoom

Before you fill the holidays with more maths…

What does your child actually need?

A head start on algebra? A stronger grasp of fractions? Or practice working through a question without someone explaining every step?

If you’re wondering whether to start Sec 1 tuition, what to revise, or how much help to give, this seminar will help you decide where to begin.

Two parts. One clearer preparation plan.

1. Understand what changes in Sec 1 Maths

Through selected maths examples, we’ll explore:

  • How primary school foundations carry into secondary school maths.
  • What changes as questions become more abstract.
  • Why knowing a method doesn’t always mean knowing when to use it.
  • What’s worth practising during the holidays, without racing through next year’s syllabus.

2. Help your child become a more independent learner

We’ll connect those examples to everyday learning habits:

  • Starting a question before asking, “How do I do this?”
  • Trying a next step when the method isn’t obvious.
  • Explaining where they’re stuck so they can get useful help.
  • Learning from corrections instead of copying them.
  • Taking responsibility for checking their work.

3. Q&A Segment

We will pick out questions submitted by the participants during the registration process to answer towards the end of the main sharing.

You’ll learn what to look for and how to support your child without taking over the thinking.

Leave knowing what to work on first.

You’ll take away a transition checklist and a simple holiday preparation plan to help you choose priorities for your child.

This is a parent-focused session with practical examples and live Q&A. No advanced maths knowledge needed.

Meet your host - Moses KM Wong • MathSifu

I help students build independent mathematical thinking. In this session, I’ll show you how subject foundations and learning habits work together, so you can make clearer decisions about your child’s preparation.

Frequently Asked Questions

My child did well in primary school. Is this still relevant?

Yes. We’ll look at how children approach unfamiliar work, as well as what they already know.

My child has gaps in primary maths. Will this be too advanced?

The session is designed for parents, not as a Sec 1 lesson. We’ll discuss how to identify foundations worth revisiting.

Will you assess my child individually?

No. The seminar provides general guidance. Personalised recommendations require a closer look at your child’s situation.

Will you introduce paid services?

Briefly, for parents who want further support. You can use the seminar’s guidance without purchasing anything.
